Grit Poppe was born in Boltenhagen on the Baltic Sea in 1964.  She studied at the German Institute for Literature in Leipzig and from 1989 to 1992, she was the regional general secretary for ”Democracy Now“. Today, she writes books for children, adolescents, and adults. Her young-adult novel Weggesperrt (Locked Away) is read in schools and won numerous awards including the Gustav Heinemann Peace Prize for books for children and young adults. The author has two adult children and lives in Potsdam.
