Jörg Mühle

That's Pretty Brave!

Ganz schön mutig!

Fear and courage are siblings – and Nini, Goldi and Klaus are best friends. They’re desperate to find out what it means to be brave. It certainly isn’t being afraid of something that isn’t dangerous at all! Being brave means breaking new ground and saying ‘No!’ every now and then. But what about tests of courage? Are they generally daft, or can they actually be fun?

In his first comic, Jörg Mühle tells a dozen brave stories. Among them is the tale of Goldi (the hamster), who absolutely loves a good scare and is therefore never afraid. Or the story of the big bad wolf, who’s scared of Ursula, the friendly bear.
Courage is always a very personal matter. If you’re not afraid, you don’t have to dare to do anything. It can be that simple – but it usually isn’t.

These stories of courage open a new chapter for the multi-talented Jörg Mühle. One of the stories has already been published in the formidable comic magazine Polle. It doesn’t take much courage to look forward to the others.

“A real treat! Hilarious and wonderfully subtle.” – Christine Knödler, freigeistern.com

“In his first children’s comic, Jörg Mühle tells a dozen stories about courage and fear, friendship, trickery and play. He drives the plot entirely through dialogue. The characters look as though they’ve been quickly scribbled onto the page, yet they’re incredibly dynamic and expressive. The result is slapstick-style humour, yet never trite. […] So don’t be surprised if your children challenge you to philosophical discussions after reading it.” – DIE ZEIT

“Jörg Mühle has published his first children’s comic – and proves once again that he is one of the great children’s authors and illustrators of our time. The elegance and effortlessness with which he captures the little trivialities and the big questions of growing up in pictures and words is simply brilliant. Especially as his books are always excellent guides for parents as well. […] Wordplay meets brilliant illustration. In his first children’s comic, the winner of the German Children’s Literature Award explores the topic of courage. What does it mean to be brave? Are we born brave? Can tests of courage help us to face our own fears and overcome them? And isn’t it sometimes braver to say no?” – Kim Kindermann, Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Lesart, 15.09.2026
