Will Gmehling, born in 1957, painted pictures for adults for a long time until he started writing books for children. In 1998 his first children’s book Tiertaxi Wolf & Co. was published by Sauerländer Verlag. Many picture and children’s books followed, which were translated into numerous languages. The children’s novel Freibad [The Lido] received several awards, including the German Children’s Literature Award. Will Gmehling has two children and lives in Bremen.
