Martin Baltscheit, born in Dusseldorf in 1965, studied communication design at Folkwangschule Essen and started his career as a cartoonist. Nowadays he works as an author, illustrator, and speaker. He made
his debut as a movie director in 2017 and was honoured with the “Kinderhörspielpreis” (Children`s Audio Drama Award) by the MDR, a German radio and television station. “Die Geschichte vom Löwen,
der nicht schreiben konnte” [The Story of the Lion that could not write] is his best known book. Martin Baltscheit is one of the most important German children’s book authors and was honoured with the
“Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis” (German Children’s Literature Award) in 2011. He lives in Dusseldorf with his family.
