The German Children’s Book Prize was established to awaken and nurture a love of reading in children. The German Children’s Book Prize is one of the most generously endowed book prizes both nationally and internationally.

What makes it special is that it is a prize awarded by children, for children: a jury of children selects the winning book from a shortlist of ten titles.

The German Children’s Book Prize aims to promote the development of children’s literature in particular and to bring children’s books more into the public eye.

It honours particularly creative, valuable and engaging children’s books that have been published for the first time in German in recent months. The prize is primarily intended to encourage children of reading age, as well as parents, grandparents, educators, teachers and other children’s book enthusiasts, to read, read aloud and discuss.
