Miss Renée and the Cartographic Conspiracy

Fraeulein-Renee_Cover_3D_web

A mysterious murder case in the shadow of the venerable Geographical Society – Miss Renée and her chronicler investigate

Germany, 1908: Out of sheer desperation, the young poet Caspar Schütze responds to a strange job advertisement – and ends up as a ‘chronicler’ for 17-year-old Renée Graf, an intrepid adventurer with a keen mind, a metal prosthetic arm and a heart that beats against all convention.
When the two discover a corpse in a dilapidated forester’s lodge, they become entangled in a web of deception, colonial power and greed: the trail leads to the venerable Geographical Society of Württemberg, whose members dream not only of expeditions and science, but also of fame and fortune.
While Renée throws herself passionately into the investigation and at the same time encounters her first love, the self-confident Lisbeth Kaufmann, Caspar is increasingly confronted with his own identity: his aromanticism, his deep need to explore the world poetically and his desire to escape the constraints of his parents’ home. However, Renée and Caspar’s attempts to obtain information about the dead woman through their membership in the Geographical Society do not go unnoticed …

Written from the perspective of a first-person narrator with an ironically subtle tone and carried by a heroine who rebels against an entire century with her courage, love and anger.
